Lettered Olive Bracelet jewelry hand-collected shells from the BatteryDr. Edmund Ravenel of Charleston, SC, a 19th century pioneer in conchology, is attributed with naming the shell. The Lettered Olive was named the official state shell by Gov. Richard Riley on May 8, 1984, due to it being a prolific ornament along the South Carolina Coast.
